In 1990, a ten year old visual artist by the name Anglo (Born Alan Taylor in Redwood City California) for the first time put his thoughts down on paper using words instead of images. What would come next is over a decade of learning, growing and developing a distinct sound that is now helping solidify a foundation for Arizona's hip-hop culture...

I moved to Central Phoenix in 1989 at an age when most kids choose a style of music that they identify with, Reality Rap was my choice due to my environment. Anger and violence was part of the daily routine. A frustrated and unadjusted child I worked out my pain through elaborate sketches. Often spending all night drawing until day light was a good way to keep hold of some inner peace. A year later an attempt on my family's lives was made by my Dad. In a climatic end to what seemed to be an endless nightmare, the attempt failed and my Dad lost his own life in the process. Images just weren't enough to convey expression anymore.

Four years later, after a move to North Phoenix to attend High School, I met Dj Soups who shared a love for hip-hop music beyond that of a listener. It would be a year before we would start actively creating our own sound on tape using a Tascam 4 track recorder and a Roland TR-707. Strictly in the spirit of fun, we hashed out a couple mixtapes. These tapes fed a need to pursue clarity of expression through music. This need to become cleaner and more crisp with the thoughts that I felt needed to be expressed have brought forth many stages in rhyme and beat development. Advancement being the key of course, the next 10 years have been spent building on what was started over a decade ago.

This work to not hold my tongue and rather bite into the fabric that weaves together situations my eye has witnessed so as to accurately convey my true soul's reaction to the smell, texture and taste of any intangible past instance has brought me to this obsession I have toward perfect word, beat and cut placement. It has to be fresh, or you may not get what I mean...and that is my biggest fear, that you wont understand what my soul is trying to say. So listen when you get a chance to hear it.
