Release Notes:
Soul-mates and fellow musicians since school, David
Tallroth and Benjamin Quigley formed DELTAHEAD in
2003 in a basement two stories below one of
StockholmÆs main streets. While the fearsome duos
musical inspiration was ranging from the blues of
the Mississippi Delta to the in-your-face-rock of
The Stooges, many other artists came to inspire the
newly formed band. Alfonze Mucha, John Cage, Fritz
Lang and Buster Keaton, to name a few.
Immediately it stood clear:
The level of expression was to be at the maximum.
Or, if possible, beyond.
The unorthodox line up, with enormous bass drums to
be played simultaneously with slide guitar, upright
bass and washboard gave the two members quite a
task to master, and rehearsals were
uncompromisingly held every single day during the
first active year. The music of DELTAHEAD was
taking shape and finding its way up to street
level.s
The intensity always at 11.
While looking for a PA-system, DELTAHEAD stumbled
across a wonderful antique loudspeaker, A.S.E.T.
(Analogue Sound Expanding Trunk), built in 1899.
The sound characteristics were perfect for the
low-down blues chanting, and the visual appearance
of the unique sculpture matched the duos old-school
look. DELTAHEAD felt a kinship and while the band
still is a duo, the members often refer to A.S.E.T.
as ôthe third memberö.
DELTAHEAD recorded their debut 4-track EP ôPeace &
Junk & Drumsö (Dustmusic) during an intense 24-hour
session in the middle of nowhere and had their
first gig just a few weeks prior to the release in
June 2004. Upon entering the various stages of the
Stockholm underground, the unlikely band left
crowds cheering for more and journalists confused.
What to make of all this?
Brutal blues riffs, swinging washboard, screaming
slide guitar and rockabilly upright bass. All
executed by two well-dressed, dandy-like gentlemen
equipped with a huge, fuck-off bass drum to pound
their hearts content. Add to that a frantic,
confetti-bursting party atmosphere and you have a
typical DELTAHEAD show, described as
ôEdison-thrashö, ôSilent-movie-punkö,
ôPunk-blues-noirö, ôtotal musical insanityö,
ôSewerbluesö, ôCoughsyrup-boogieö, ôHas to be seen
to be believed!ö and on and on and on it goesà
The upcoming self-titled debut album was recorded
in 2005 by the legendary sound technician Anders
Lind, after DELTAHEAD had spent the year touring
and trying out new material. In 2004, DELTAHEAD
toured in Sweden and Russia and in 2005 the band
did three UK tours, as well as shows in Norway,
Sweden and Denmark.
