::| Wiiija was started in 1988 by Pete, Nigel and Jude at the Rough Trade |::
::| Shop. At the time there was tons of innovative stuff coming over from |::
::| America - Butthole Surfers, Swans, Sonic Youth, Big Black, etc etc, and |::
::| the aim was to reflect some of the new, inventive music being made by |::
::| British artists with similar ideas and influences. |::
::| Miss Lady A would love to be a figure of clandestine intrigue. |::
::| Unfortunately such cloak-and-dagger ambitions will have to be put on |::
::| hold. Her second, stupendously brilliant album, THE WORLD OF LADY A, |::
::| demands that the world and his mistress learn a whole lot more about |::
::| Anjali Bhatia (see, her cover is already blown). THE WORLD OF LADY A is |::
::| the assured follow-up to 2000s critically acclaimed debut album, ANJALI |::
::| That album was quite embryonic, declares Anjali, it was at the time I |::
::| decided to start singing again. It was quite a tender, very personal |::

::| and Aquila - navigated a loose and languid experimentalism over |::
::| structured songcraft. Compiled on 1999s SHEER WITCHERY album, these |::

::| HEER WITCHERY collects together all four singles from former Voodoo |::
::| Queens singer Anjali Bhatia. Eschewing her former bandÆs guitars in a |::
::| manner similar to Leslie RankineÆs mutation from Silverfish to Ruby, |::
::| Anjali has shut herself away with a load of samplers and sequencers and |::
::| re-invented herself as a trip-hop/dub/techno queen. |::

::| The opening FELINE WOMAN marries sleek beats with an airy flute and |::
::| some satisfyingly meaty scratching. The album continues in much the |::
::| same vein, blending 3am-driving-through-the-city beats with Bollywood |::
::| strings and AnjaliÆs voice, which alternates between breathy gasps and |::
::| full-blown vocals. |::

::| JU JU has horns and dub rhythms, while the mix of bongos and freaky |::
::| samples on AQUILA make for an alluring combination. By the time we get |::
::| to ASTRA, the beats have been supplemented by a very pretty harp and |::
::| string arrangement |::
