Release Notes:

The music of Les Projectionnistes - one of
trombonist/composer Claude St-Jean's two
long-running projects, along with Orkestre des Pas
Perdus - is so obvious and enjoyable that it
doesn't seem to require much explication. The
compositions are generally built around repetitive
riffs over a funky beat courtesy of drummer RΘmi
Leclerc and bassist Tommy Babin, with the horns of
St-Jean, alto saxophonist Roberto Murray and tenor
saxophonist Pierre LabbΘ wailing away on top.
Guitar wizard Bernard Falaise works both the back
and front end of the operation with aplomb, giving
the funky jazz a rock edge. The disc comes just
this close to capturing the energy of the live
experience - it's missing St-Jean's very funny
between-song patter - but it's still a worthwhile
way to spend your time.
La surprise commence des les premiwres notes de la
bien nommwe Hors-d'oeuvre, qui ouvre l'album d'une
facon tres inattendue avec Bernard Falaise qui
gratouille la guitare seche d'une facon a laquelle
les compositions du tromboniste Claude St-Jean ne
nous ont pas habitues. Ce deuxieme enregistrement
marque un pas de geant apres Copie zero de 1999. Il
n'etait pas mauvais, mais celui-ci est vraiment
excellent! L'ensemble y brille e tous les niveaux:
la basse de Tommy Babin n'a jamais si bien sonne et
les saxos de Pierre Labbe et Roberto Murray forment
avec le trombone une section de cuivres de premiere
classe. Remi Leclerc (batterie) est en feu et
Falaise laisse sortir le mechant plus d'une fois.
