 ░ ░

Something is on Elliott Smith's mind. Let's see if we can
figure out what it is by his song titles: "Everything
Reminds Me of Her," "Pretty Mary K," "Happiness," "Somebody
That I Used to Know." Any guesses yet? From the sounds and
appearances of his new CD, Figure 8, it's safe to say that
Smith has come down with a bout of spring fever. But, true
to his modus operandi, Smith's fever has more in common with
   a lovesick depression than a pollen-induced hormone-fest.
This is what fans have both learned to expect and love from
Smith. There are no real surprises on Figure 8, just the
same gorgeous, soft vocals and acoustic guitar heard on his
previous releases, including 1998's XO and 1997's Either/Or.
There's a certain lullaby sameness to his music that other
artists might not be able to get away with, but Smith pulls
it off with finesse. He sings about girls, and frivolous
philosophy, and girls, and what else? Oh, girls. To be fair,
Figure 8 does stray from the Elliott Smith mold -- albeit
ever so slightly. On "Everything Means Nothing to Me," Smith
repeats the title over and over, each syllable mirroring the
guitar chords, each syllable graduating to a higher note. It
results in a new sound for Smith; it's a melody that's at
once redundant but cogent. Curiously, "Everything Means
Nothing to Me" is directly preceded by the song "Everything
Reminds Me of Her." While Smith probably won't become known
for pioneering new and novel music styles, he does
   exceedingly well just being himself.

▒ iRO is an internal release group, which means we ▒
░ release outside of the regular mp3 scene. We do this ░
purely for the public, so you can hear that hard-to-
░ find album, that release you could never find the ░
scene rip of, and the actual retails of albums at
proper quality standards so you can decide whether
you really want to buy them or not; all without
    asking for anything in return.

Also, unlike our predecessors, iRO gives back first
to the people who do all the work, the rippers. With
this thought at heart, all members have an equal say
in all group decisions and are welcome in all group
channels. Equality, quality and democracy, values
    all good groups should share.

We are currently looking for fast ftps to serve as
pubs and member sites, as well as xdcc shell
providers. If you can help out by providing one of
these to this noble cause please come visit us in
#iRO on EFNET and leave a message with a member.
