After the greatly recognized debut album 'Would you Kiss me' in
1999 and the immediate signing under Jive in spring of 2000 the
second album from Wondabraa has been released on the 26th of
February. Whereas the first album was still very undecided in
style, Kail Liekenbroecker, mastermind of Wonderbraa, this time
manages to come forth with 'Decks to Basics', an album forged by
jazzy club tracks, urban-lounge pop as well as wonderful downbeat
tracks. With the singer Miriam Kassim from Manchester who is
featured on the album Wondabraa proves international quality which
has been highlighted in many press reports. With live played drums
bass and keyboards the grooves of the musicians are still in the
foreground. Dry, fat drums, funky clavinets and jazzy wurlitzer
e-piano riffs as well as 70s wah-guitars mixed with 303-lines,
spacy moog-sounds, trippy vocals make the album dancealbe but still
very good to listen to. In search of the perfect pop melody and the
magic first take sampling and computergrooves stand in the
background und are merely used as production tool yet when utilized
are unconventional and in part very radical. The result is a unique
Wondabraa-urban-beats sound that people could enjoy live during the
club-tour.
