Release Notes:
A feline obsessed duo centering around the creative core of
Galia Durant and Carim Clasmann, Psapp's debut LP 'Tiger,
My Friend' felt like a real find - clunking along in a foggy
miasma of creaking beats, found-sound collages and velveteen vocals.
Extending this charming remit for their follow-up 'The Only Thing
I Ever Wanted', Psapp seem to have consummately shouldered the
expectation which accompanies your music being used as the theme-tune
to 'Grey's Anatomy' and providing aural accompaniment to tales of
vacuous sun-tanned youths. It's a clunking corker. Opening with 'Hi',
Psapp immediately assert a matured stance despite the employment of
outwardly similar elements; an aquatic burst of multi-layered
percussion here, some herky-jerky instrumentation there - all topped
off with a generous serving off Galia's vocal honey. Assured and
steeped in an after-hours ambience, Durant has the ability to weave
a firm pop-sensibility around strands of muted elegance whilst never
becoming consumed by Clasmann's intricately structured aural-mosaics.
With particular highlights including the stuttering Andy
Williams-indebted 'The Words', the languid piano exhalation of
'Make Up' and the organ-addled FM stature of the title track,
'The Only Thing I Ever Wanted' is whisker-lickin' good.
