│║   Despite one of the most boring cover artworks I have ever    ║ │
│║   witnessed, Stryper's ''Live at the Whiskey'' is a highly     ║ │
│║   entertaining package featuring sixteen energizing tracks     ║ │
│║   with a perfect running time of seventy-five minutes. This    ║ │
│║   release features both recent tunes such as the powerful      ║ │
│║   opener ''Legacy'' that kicks things off without any lengths  ║ │
│║   and classics like the enthusiastic closer ''Soldiers Under   ║ │
│║   Command'' where the entire crowd sings along.                ║ │
│║                                                                ║ │
│║   Aside from a set list without any fillers or stinkers, the   ║ │
│║   sound of this record is great and the band is in top form.   ║ │
│║   Drummer Robert Sweet is working like an octopus, bassist     ║ │
│║   Timothy Gaines adds vivid beats in the right spots, Oz Fox   ║ │
│║   pulls off one spectacular guitar solo after the other and    ║ │
│║   Michael Sweet's vocals sound emotional, juvenile and         ║ │
│║   skilled. Stryper is one of these bands that manages to       ║ │
│║   sound better nowadays than back in the days when they rose   ║ │
│║   to fame. Another enjoyable fact is that the band doesn't do  ║ │
│║   any lengthy speeches about its religious beliefs and lets    ║ │
│║   the songs speak for themselves instead. The transitions      ║ │
│║   between the different tracks are fluid and what you get      ║ │
│║   here are seventy-five minutes of honest and straight heavy   ║ │
│║   metal music. Michael Sweet only interacts with the crowd to  ║ │
│║   thank them and encourage them to sing along or clap their    ║ │
│║   hands in a very sympathetic way. The fans seem to enjoy the  ║ │
│║   concert and participate enthusiastically during the band's   ║ │
│║   classics. The sound of the recording is very balanced and    ║ │
│║   natural just as an authentic and unpolished live release     ║ │
│║   should be.                                                   ║ │

│║   This live album is highly recommendable for both faithful    ║ │
│║   fans of the band that want to hear this band in top form     ║ │
│║   and new followers who get a perfect overview of the band's   ║ │
│║   career with this diversified set list. This output is a      ║ │
│║   welcome alternative to the usual greatest hits compilations  ║ │
│║   even though Stryper's own re-recordings on ''Second          ║ │
│║   Coming'' were really great. The DVD is just as               ║ │
│║   unpretentious as this concert itself and simply includes     ║ │
│║   two video clips and a documentary as short and sweet bonus   ║ │
│║   gimmicks. I'm quite confident that any fan of classic heavy  ║ │
│║   metal should adore the hell out of this release.             ║ │
