Achala┤s debut album äTwelve Days in a Secret Gardenô sweeps
it┤s audience into a fascinating, kaleidoscopic universe of
sounds which defies such trite labels as äworld musicô,
äethnopopô, etc. - they all seem far too narrow to categorize
Clark and Krell┤s creation. With exotic instruments such as
sitar, shakuhachi and tablas played against a soundscape of
keyboards, programmings, and live orchestral arrangements, the
composers manage to send the listener off into mystical realms.
The album starts with the entrance into a paradisical garden, in
which the listener experiences several states of mind, all
defined by movements within the twelve steps of the musical
scale, and culminating in the ultimate relaxation of returning -
to a different place.
In all civilizations, numerology has provided a basis for
religious and political understanding, a definition of energy,
measurements, an understanding of the universe as we perceive
it, and of our own mind - only natural that the symbol-laden
number 12 should also be the basis of Achala┤s first oevre.
äTwelve Days....ô is just the escape we┤ve been looking
for....out of our hectic online presence into a long-lost
appreciation of time.
The journey starts gently with three instrumental pieces äThe
Entranceô, äLuminousityô and äSerenityô, which demonstrate Tony
Clark and Lothar Krell┤s creative potential that is to be
unfolded in the 70 - minute plus work.
An inspired fusion of east and west, both in music and thought,
is heard in the more upbeat track äThe Sting of a Roseô.ôThe Law
of Harmonyô and äSeeds of Lightô, pulsating and lively ethnopop
compositions, audibly derive their force from age old wisdoms of
eastern music culture.
