::| With their dark and beautifully brooding Nightwork album, post-ambient |::
::| (hey, did I just create a new genre?) duo Blue released one of my |::
::| favorite discs of last year. Now they return with Corrosion, a |::
::| mini-album that taps a similar musical vein while incorporating some |::
::| new elements into the fray. The aptly titled "Crunch" kicks the set off |::
::| with a bone-shaking dub groove peppered with clanking beats and |::
::| ethereal vocal samples. The deep, dubby backbone continues into the |::
::| more atmospheric "Bear" and "Sunday" and the lazy breakbeat driven |::
::| "Speech". Another quartet of tracks follow, continuing the theme of fat |::
::| bass and slow beats interspersed with odd samples and darkish ambient |::
::| undercurrents - although on the closing track "Assett" and an unlisted |::
::| "hidden" work, the mood perks up a bit. Not to "storm the dancefloor" |::
::| levels, mind you, but enough to get the head nodding a bit. A sign of |::
