The Los Angeles based duo, AMMONCONTACT, made their debut on record
with the song "Chord (parts 1-2)" released on the acclaimed Dublab
Presents: Freeways compilation for off-beat pop label Emperor
Norton, back in early 2001. The compilation was co-produced and
co-compiled by CARLOS NINO -- the "ON CONTACT" part of
AMMONCONTACT. NINO is a resident programmer at dublab.com (infamous
internet radio station), and has been involved in the Los Angeles
music scene for over seven years. L.A. native and lovin' it, NINO
first found his voice as a radio DJ/host for Pacifica station, KPFK
  90.7FM / Los Angeles, in 1995. He founded the pre-eminent L.A. rare
groove, Hip Hop show All At One Point. After some transition and
refinement, NINO flipped the script and now does the show Spaceways
heard Sundays from 10PM-Midnight PST on KPFK.ORG. SCOTT HERREN (of
EASTERN DEVELOPMENTS) has said, that he "lives by" air checks of
the show. A bit more experimental now, NINO says, "its from
Folkways to Sun Ra and what's in between." Tune in to hear
exclusive EASTDEV tracks before they're out anywhere and a whole
  lot more!!

Around that same '95 point, NINO began his current career as a
concert producer/promoter, having started the now defunct Working
Class Productions company, creating shows for his favorite unsung
heroes: Gary Bartz NTU Troop, Terry Callier, Yusef Lateef, Eugene
McDaniels, Gil Scott-Heron & Brian Jackson, Horace Tapscott, Phil
Ranelin, Joseph Jarman, Big Black and others. Besides getting up
with old skool legends, WCP also showcased contemporary greats like
Divine Styler, Saul Williams, Anti Pop Consortium, Blackalicious,
Madlib, DJ Shadow/Cut Chemist, Prince Paul. More recently, he's
picked up where WCP left off, now with Todosonidos Presenta. Check
  todosonidospresenta.org for more info.

From the radio and concerts came NINO's great relationship with the
amazing L.A. based, St. Louis born, soul-jazz singer Dwight Trible.
NINO produced Trible's debut CD Horace for his WCP label to a
limited pressing of 1000 copies. The CD made a huge buzz in Los
Angeles, a few elsewhere on the coast and in New York. Trible's
album featured jazz luminaries Billy Higgins & Charles Owens,
soul-funk brother Derf Reklaw, and poet Kamau Daaood, to name a
few. Today, you can see Trible leading his own group in Cali, often
at The World Stage or Howlin' Monk and on many West Coast dates
singing with Pharoah Sanders. Recently, the two got together for a
project that will be out soon called Our Cry for Peace by the
  Immediate Action Peace Collective.

Another hallmark relationship for NINO has been with world renowned
composer/ percussionist/hand-drummer ADAM RUDOLPH, who he says,
"[took him] to the next level." The two have been at work on a
series of concerts with a group they created called Go: Organic
Orchestra, which premiered in November 2001 in Venice,California.
The next Go:Organic performance will feature Yusef Lateef and is
slated for late February 2003. To date, Go: Organic Orchestra
already have a debut album released, entitled 01, released on
RUDOLPH's Meta label. There is a sophomore Go: Organic Orchestra
album on the horizon, called Web Of Light. In addition to the
Go:Organic project, NINO and RUDOLPH also work together in another
important recording project called HU VIBRATIONAL. HU VIBRATIONAL
features the brilliant talking percussion work of legends RUDOLPH
and HAMID DRAKE, along with production skills from NINO. The HU
VIBRATIONAL debut EP, entitled Boonghee Music 1 [EASTDEV001], is
readily available and is truly essential listening! The HU VIBE
full-length album, Boonghee Music 2, was recently completed and
should be hitting streets in 2003. Stay tuned!!

In addition, NINO works very closely with EASTERN DEVELOPMENTS
recording artist DAEDELUS. NINO (damn, this Aquarius brother keeps
busy!) the Executive Producer/Project Coordinator for DAEDELUS'
Invention album and The Quiet Party EP, both on the Cali-based Plug
  Reasearch label.

The AMMON part of the duo is FABIAN AMMON ALSTON. A quiet Aires
brother, originally from Rhode Island, whose bedroom studio is
where the two make their noise. AMMON is the middle name given to
him by his mom Bina. She says that it refers to a powerful body of
heavenly water; all the power and energy from the water named.
Influenced by '70s & '80s funk and what he considers "the basics",
like late '80s East Coast hip-hop. Other influences include new
sounds from Detroit and Philly minimalist beat makers, as well as
the world rhythms of Jorge Ben to Uhuru Dance Band of Ghana. ALSTON
is a rising giant on the beatsè check the ill palettes. Together,
AMMONCONTACT trade off ideas, sounds and drums (about fifty-fifty
on MPC 2000, ASR 10 and assorted percussion)... constructing what
you have before you: Beats From Bina's House. It's been a while
coming and now it's here, for all you vinyl loving hip-hop beat
cats. Don't miss the amazing no-wave-break-dance DAEDELUS remix
featured! As SCOTT HERREN calls it, "MACHINE FUNK". Bang it in your
  jeep! --heftyrecords.com
