Domenico Ferrari's third solo album, appropriately called 3 on the
Straight Ahead label, delivers a compelling mosaic of sounds. At
only 30 years old, Ferrari's award-winning natural talent and
developed mastery of the guitar has paired him with Dana Bryant,
Jojo Mayer, Scott Colley, Roli Mosimann and Vera Klaa. Ferrari's
virtuoso guitar work propels this eerie and melodic album through
various fusion and abstract jazz-isms. The opening track, "D&F" is
intelligent and introspective, sounding a little like early Oval.
Electronic textures are written on top of minimal guitar strumming,
creating an original and soothing introduction to the album. Track
three, "Sexy Bones," explores sonic textures over jungle riffs
before finally giving way to circularity that would entice even
Steve Reich. 3 offers up to the listener an intense and thoughtful
hybrid of electronic jazz, guitar and breaks that are the unique
