The Cookin' mission continues with EP number 3 - another 4 track
melting pot of hip-hop, soul, jazz and funk.
Bjorn - "Fountainhead Of Life"
Cookin' stalwart Bjorn delivers another slice of soundtrack sleaze.
The forbidding, spoken introduction edges slowly towards the
stalking bassline. Low fidelity beats crunch and hiss through the
track. Spooky chords and ominous drones drop like a very aggrieved
Roy Budd. A disturbing trip to the seedier streets of life.
Meeting Minds - "Strong Nature"
London duo Ayor and C1 come up trumps with a blissful, beautiful
and mournful piece of music. Rock steady beats provide the impetus
whilst the trumpet refrain supplies the emotion. Gentle pads swell
the tune to greater stature and are topped off with a sprinkling of
shimmers and atmospheric FX. A sentimental journey. A stoned
groove.
Cedar - "Transcendant Spheres"
Modern day, late night jazzmatazz. Slick production brings this
up-tempo breaks track into focus and gives it a proper polish.
Crackling rhodes, smooth live bass and dreamy melodics keep the
vibe chilled and the sound restrained. Nice.
K-Scope - "Sleight Of Eye"
A steaming soup kitchen of vibes. Everything is being stirred up to
increase flavours and aid consumption. K-Scope's increasing
reputation as fine audio chefs is very much in evidence here. With
nothing but real instruments on the menu you know this dish comes
recommended.
