Release Notes:
Burt Hashiguchi and Jason Jeffrey had been playing music together
for several years before forming Cast of Thousands. Jason's
previous band experiences include the Southern California hardcore
groups Circle Storm and Collision. Burt's past bands include the
melodic hardcore band Soonest Mended and the short-lived, but
sweetly-loved emo quartet The Tapeworm Diet. In Cast of Thousands'
first incarnation, Burt and Jason enlisted the aid of Anthony Lew,
bassist for The Tapeworm Diet, to round out the trio. For better
or worse, things got put on hold shortly after Cast of Thousands'
first performance. At this time, Jason, Burt, Burt's brother, Erik
Hashiguchi, and newcomer Phil Bergquist formed the brutal
metalcore outfit Walking Distance. Burt and Jason resumed Cast of
Thousands with Erik on bass in 2001 to record an EP (Summer to
Reflect) at Nu-Tone Recordings in Pittsburgh, CA. The new trio
began to play out shortly afterwards.
