Maya Overbye Herulf, born in Copenhagen, Denmark in august 1975. She
attended The International School for childrenÆs education in Denmark
and this is where her interest for music began. She started out
playing flute and clarinet. Later on she is introduced to the guitar
and played in the big-band on my school as the only girl playing
anything else but the flute. This resulted in an invitation from "the
guys" who had a real band, in this way she started as a rock-
guitarist playing anything from Mothers Finest and Bryan Adams. Later
on her interest for jazz started, having been introduced to the
greatest legends in jazz by her music teacher. In this way she
started to build up her knowledge of music styles also playing the
piano. In 1998 she traveled to Los Angeles to study music at LA Music
Academy and took a diploma there. During her stay in LA she had a
song released on a compilation of the well-known Jazziz Magazine. In
1999 she started her education at The Rotterdam Conservatory in The
Netherlands in the department for Jazz. This is where she met
Tzvetin, they immediately started working together, trying out
different styles of music and developing into what they are as a duo
today. While living in The Netherlands she was doing regular gigs
with various musicians and participating in the Erasmus Jazz-Price
competition in 2001 with own compositions and arrangements. She
graduated from the conservatory in 2004 and she is now living in
Copenhagen, focusing on writing and singing her own music, working
together with Tzvetin.
