░  Andy Sugg is one of Australia' leading saxophonists and After Utopia  ░
░  is his fourth album in three years. His new release on NewMarket is   ░
░  the first to feature original compositions written for his fusion     ░
░  project, The Andy Sugg Group.                                         ░

░  The music on After Utopia is nothing if not contemporary. In the      ░
░  best traditions of jazz, its focus is infectious groove and great     ░
░  improvising. To emphasise the point, the album features leading       ░
░  Australian and international musicians. Pianist Sam Keevers and       ░
░  guitarist Steve Magnusson are already well-known to Australian        ░
░  audiences, while Elyan Fernova, the foremost Italian fusion drummer,  ░
░  is a recent arrival to Melbourne.                                     ░

░  After Utopia also features the remarkable sound of David Liebman,     ░
░  New York's principal soprano saxophonist since his Miles Davis/Elvin  ░
░  Jones days of the 1970s.                                              ░

░  After Utopia includes a special bonus track, "Kris," recorded from a  ░
░  set Sugg played at the Wangaratta Jazz Festival in 2004. Liebman,     ░
░  who was headlining the Festival, joined in that set. This live mix    ░
░  of "Kris" is the only recording of Liebman's playing from the         ░
░  Festival, and from the whole of his Australian tour, to have become   ░
░  available to the public. It's an exciting release because it shows    ░
░  Liebman in a free jazz context; something that Australian audiences   ░
░  have never had the chance to see before.                              ░
