│ Caural is Zachary Mastoon, a 27 year-old multi-instrumentalist │
│ and producer originally from Chicago. His early music │
│ collaborations began in a basement with best friend and │
│ sax-blasting neighbor Stuart Bogie (Antibalas Afrobeat │
│ Orchestra). Caural went on to gain his stage legs writing and │
│ performing music as an initial member of Transmission; he would │
│ do the same with the group that became the backing band for │
│ fellow Chocolate Industries' emcee Diverse. │
│ │
│ Caural's extensive travels led to studying jazz guitar and │
│ improvisation with Anthony Braxton at Wesleyan University, │
│ Indonesian Gamelan and Southeast Asian music aboard the Semester │
│ at Sea program, and experimental electronic music at NYU. Caural │
│ moved back to Chicago in 2000, recording two EPs and a │
│ critically-acclaimed full-length for Chocolate Industries, │
│ "Stars On My Ceiling." │
│ │
│ Currently working in New York, Caural is remixing material for │
│ artists on Plug Research, Sound In Color, and Chocolate │
│ Industries among others. While finishing up another full-length, │
│ Caural found time to give these tracks to us.Inspired by the │
│ abstract musical quality of skipping compact discs, our guy set │
│ to work and "Suicide/Krylon Psychology" came into being. │
│ │
│ "Suicide" as a piece of music doesn't quite live up to its name. │
│ With its lush layers, the melody and beat work together, │
│ gradually pulling the listener in. "Krylon Psychology" is a love │
│ letter of sorts to city life, where musical genres mix like │
│ gradations of grime, grit, ink and paint. "Shiny Side" is a │
│ sonic exploration into what happens when we don't follow │
