This absolutely seminal classical album (voted
classical album of the year by Time magazine on its
release) has finally been re-released after original
copies have been flying out of ebay at stupid prices.
Kronos Quartet, probably best known worldwide for
their score to the film Requiem For A Dream, here
perform the compositions of avant classical music's
most respected members : Terry Riley - a contemporary
of Steve Reich, John Adams and Philip Glass. The
compositions here are rich and powerful and the
performance as always from The Kronos Quartet is
utterly captivating. If you have had your appetites
whet by recent cds from Clogs, Max Richter or Ryan
Teague this album would be a perfect port of call.
Clogs for one have taken huge influence from RileyÆs
works, and this album seems joined intrinsically with
their sound, taking an almost American folk direction
at times. Incredible and humbling, this is an
unmissable work of beauty, don't delay.
