     ALBA was formed in connection with the first Copenhagen Early
     Music Festival in 1992 and the Spanish exhibition at the art
     museum Louisiana the same year.  From the first years ALBA has
     focused on the task of mediating the music of the Middle Ages
     in such a way that it can captivate the modern audience as an
     art form, not just a historic curiosity.

     By examining surviving original sources of both writings and
     visual arts, and by studying still living music traditions with
     roots in medieval time, ALBA first of all searches for the
     timeless state of emotion which in spite of the distinctive
     character of both the music and the instruments are living in
     music from all times. They then flavours it with a mixture of
     authenticity and personal expression.

     ALBA varies and contrasts the music with a virtuous and subtle
     control of the innumerable possibilities of their instruments.
     The programmes expose the countless colours and diversities of
     the Middle Ages, often with a mixture of both words and music.

     A concert with ALBA is an invitation to experience the refined
     Middle Ages, with music for both body and soul.

     Agnethe Christensen,  contralto, comes originally from Sweden
     and has her musical roots in both classical and folk music.
     After studies at the Royal Danish Academy of Music and with
     Andrea von Ramm in Basel, she has participated in operas, solo
     recordings for different radio stations, CD productions and
     concerts in early music and has worked together with a.o
     William Christie, Reinhard Goebel, Konrad JunghΣnel and Frieder
     Bernius  as well as giving masterclasses and solorecitals. She
     also appears at opera stages worldwide performing mainly modern
     and baroque opera  latest with the danish theatrecompany Hotel
     Proforma in their musicproduction  Operation Orfeo  and in
     2001, together with Benjamin Bagby, in Sequentias new
     music-theater production"Myths of the Icelandic Edda".

     Poul H°xbro is internationally acknowledged for his pioneering
     work in reviving the earliest traditions of pipe and
     tabor-playing. With experiences from both rock- and folk music,
     classical diploma- and soloist exams from The Carl Nielsen
     Academy of Music, through studies of medieval sources and in
     close collaboration with chosen instrument makers PH has worked
     intensively to (re)create a medieval playing style and sound
     which is both artistic and - as far as possible - historical
     without compromises, and the result of this work has lead to
     performances throughout the world. His sound is used in a
     variety of musical styles, he publishes music on
     SheetMusicNow.com, gives dancing courses and lectures. In
     connection with his music he also works with storytelling in as
     well Danish as English, and has performed with this combination
     at festivals in the North, England, USA and Australia.
