The songs of Tom Russell chart the lives of outsiders and people living at
the margins, and on his newest album LOVE & FEAR he intertwines their
stories and his own in a chronicle of dreams and dreams deferred; passion
and desperation; sin and redemption. Taking a more personal tack than on
recent works, Russell ventures into what he calls "the ragged outback of
love" for a gritty, edgy collection of 11 original songs -- seven produced
by Gurf Morlix (Lucinda Williams, Mary Gauthier) -- approaching love from
every angle with a range that ventures from folk-rock anthems to wistful,
lovelorn ballads.
