    EMO Ensemble is  a choir of  young voices founded  at the Espoo  Music
    Institute  in  autumn 2000.  The  purpose of  the  choir is  to  offer
    talented musicians aged between 15  and 25 the opportunity to  develop
    their vocal capabilities and, on the other hand, to offer composers an
    instrument  capable  of  learning  new,  demanding  material  at short
    notice. The choir has professional singers as section leaders to coach
    the ensemble members, and each member also takes voice lessons. At the
    moment, EMO Ensemble consists of about 40 young musicians.

    EMO Ensemble won 1st prize in the first international Harald  AndersΘn
    Chamber Choir Competition in autumn 2003; the competition was open  to
    both amateur and professional  choirs. The choir's performance  of Two
    Songs to Poems of Ann  JΣderlund by Esa-Pekka Salonen also  received a
    special prize for best performance of a contemporary work.

    One of the specialities of  EMO Ensemble is performing water  music in
    swimming baths, dressed  in bathrobes and  swimsuits. In summer  2002,
    the choir gave a concert in  the Tapiola swimming bath as part  of the
    international Songbridge event, and in  summer 2003 it was invited  to
    perform at the Polyfollia festival in Normandy, France.
