Damn, where to start with this release?
Firstly, its an absolutely HORRIBLE press, and sounds more like an
old '78 than 2006 vinyl. I realise its a picture disc, but i've
never had any major probs with other picture discs in my
collection...
Secondly, putting a huge sticker which folds over the insert flap
on the plastic sleeve is retarded. Removing it to get into the
sleeve is difficult, and in my case it left glue residue onto the
run-in of the vinyl. Luckily, none got onto the actual play area or
I would have just snapped it in half right there :)
On the plus side, the monolake remix is really good, and because
the track is so deep, it negates most of the surface noise. Its
just a shame this track is exclusive to this release, as i'd love
to hear it on a properly pressed 12".
I was in two minds whether to release this at all, but I think the
monolake track makes it worthwhile. For those who don't believe me
about the bad pressing, check the metope sample at
http://www.boomkat.com/item.cfm?id=21342 and listen for yourself.
Luckily, the metope remix is availble on other releases, so if you
want a better quality version, you can find one on
Depeche_Mode_-_Suffer_Well-Promo_CDM-2006-SMS for example.
As you can probably tell, i'm very passionate about my vinyl, and
always take the time to ensure my rips sound as good as they can
be. If any of you do intend to buy this release (and you'll have to
be quick as its limited), please be careful when opening it!
