The latest release from Madloch's Sound Avenue imprint welcomes
B.A.X. back to the label for his debut EP. The Vietnamese artist
first appeared on Belgian imprint in January of this year with a
remix of Madloch and Subnode's 'Lion's Mane'. Classically
trained and borderless in his approach to production, the Ho Chi
Minh City resident has also found a home on fryhide, Manual
Music and Sound Avenue affiliate 3rd Avenue. Now embarking on
one of the most creative projects of his career B.A.X. presents
his 'Serenade to Earth' EP.
Sitting in the creative space between electronica and deep
house, it is the enchanting sounds of
'Into the Aura' which leads the release off. On a bed of clever
beat patterns lays tantalizing arps and gaseous atmospheres.
Layers of percussion add swing and drive leading into the break,
while otherworldly effects steal the air. Haunting overlays
highlight the centerpiece, adding moments of hope and
reflection, before effortlessly shifting energy into a classy
drop as the primary motifs reconvene for an emotive finale.
The EP's second and also title selection follows suit with
organic beats and pleasurable themes. Deep, intricate and
undeniably groovy, it's a heartfelt journey into the depths of
emotive house. Warm swells and layers of exotic percussion set
the foundation for a narrative of dulcet pianos and tranquil
arps. Cosmic creativities add further depth leading into a
meditative break, before wispy effects and rising atmospheres
usher in a glowing third movement.
Rounding out the release is 'Dandelions' which finds B.A.X.
drawing on his New Age / Ambient roots. Having scored several
short and full length films it has always been a genre B.A.X.
has excelled in flexing. Smooth, elegant and a touch pensive,
it's an incredibly charming six-minute journey. Cascading pianos
marry symphonic swells and unique artefacts, as icy atmospheres
elevate mood and emotion, before elegantly peaking and getting
washed away in a trail of exquisite sonics. It rounds out an
inspired collection of music from B.A.X., making his debut EP
for Sound Avenue a most memorable one.
