* Rock the Kasbah is a compilation dedicated to the
memory of the late front man of the Clash Joe
Strummer.
* Over the past 20 years there has been a growing
movement in the countries of the Middle East,
Africa and Asia in which the youth have not enjoyed
such mainstream channels for their voices and
opinions to be heard and where it has been far more
risky to speak out or to embrace western musical
styles and where music itself is taboo in certain
cultures.... Joe Strummer and the Clash were
unwittingly a profound influence on these artists
who each in their own way are literally rocking the
casbah sometimes as exiles and often at risk to
their personal safety.
* This compilation predates Joe Strummers
tragically early demise and attempts to reflect
what he would have listened to and hopes to meet
with his approval... certainly he was a big fan of
world music cultures including Arabic music in his
Mescaleros years and this compilation is dedicated
to his memory.
