| EP Released in Advance to their new album, including new and |
| old songs; |

| London's Absentee are Dan Michaelson (vocals/guitar), |
| Melinda Bronstein (vocals, keyboards, melodica, |
| glochenspiel), Babak Ganjei (guitar/lap steel), Laurie Earle |
| (bass) and Jon Chandler (drums). This current line-up was |
| cemented a week before their first UK tour in November 2004 |
| and ever since the group have been honing their original |
| idea's into full blown facts. The testimony of which can be |
| found within the group's second album "Schmotime" due for |
| release in May 2006. After their first, and fairly |
| ramshackle, year together writing and supporting the likes |
| of The Magic Numbers, The Go! Team and Architecture in |
| Helsinki, the group made many friends and supporters in the |
| pop world and eventually decided to sign to the like minded |
| souls at Memphis Industries. The band were won over by the |
| label's straight forward personalities and their eclectic |
| tastes and roster. In the summer of 2005, Absentee released |
| 'Donkey Stock' their first limited release on Memphis |
| Industries. The six track mini-album was an unassuming |
| introduction to a band with a lot to say to those who want |
| to listen. It turned out that a fair few ears did fancy a |
| listen. 'Donkey Stock', a rich debut that told tales of love |
| gone sour and awkward sex, dully sold out and the friends |
| kept coming. The NME said about the release; 'these songs |
| make each hair on the back of your neck shiver like leaves |
| in the wind.' before promptly placing it at number 28 in |
| their albums of the year. The new album, recorded at the |
| bands second home, The Premises Studios in Bethnal Green, |
| was recorded between tours and overseen by uber fabo |
| producer James Ford (Mystery Jets, Arctic Monkeys, Testicles |
| etc). This latest offering reflects the group's newfound |
| stability and confidence that spending too much time |
| together has provided. In their own words the new album is |
| both lyrically and musically more to the point than their |
| past recordings. Wondering guitar lines and humorous |
| metaphors are now matched with instant melodies and acute |
| observation. The result is a more accessible yet no less |
| exciting record. Drawing inspiration from a list of artists |
| as diverse as, Lou Reed, Leonard Cohen, Pavement, Super |
| Furries and Bob Dylan, Absentee focus on the incompatibly of |
| people jarred with the inevitability of their eventual |
| compromise and demise. The album suggests a meeting point |
| between 'Melody Nelson' and 'Transformer' capturing the |
| frustrations of love, sex, life and death. Take for example |
| the song 'We Shall Never Have Children', as lyricist Dan |
| Michaelson puts it; "the song tells the story of a drunken |
| romance between two unsuited people, the ugliness of their |
| affair (both physically and mentally) and the slowly |
| realised responsibility shared between two adults for what |
| they produce, summed up in the title. WE SHOULD NEVER HAVE |
| CHILDREN." |
