Once a champion of the classic but now defunct Defocus label,
Aussie Tim Koch has now seen fit to launch his latest
electronic opus on the world. Unsurprisingly this is hardly
groundbreaking stuff; electronica of the oldschool variety, but
it is done with enough class and understanding to make it a
damn fine listen. Choppy beats, deep bass, 8 bit synths and
that all important floaty melody. Its all here and bound to
make idm fanatics weak at the knees, they will be tripping over
their Aphelion cds to get this one. What I like about Koch is
his unusual sense of melody, it makes his tracks stand out in a
saturated scene, there's something very appealing about that
and the melodies are infectious enough to have you humming them
on the way to work morning after morning. Business as usual for
Merck anyway this is one for fans of Lackluster, Sense and of
course Plaid.
