This Song Is A Mess But So Am I aka Freddy Ruppert have made
his own press release, here goes:
"So I have to write the press release for Marble Mouth and I
have been having a lot of trouble with it. I volunteered to
write my own press release because I didn't want someone else
writing it because I was worried they would write stuff that I
didn't like or didn't want in there or whatever. It also
didnÆt take me long to realize that taking on this task by
myself was a bad idea. Now every time I start to write
something it seems really stupid. Like I can't write "gritty
blasts of distorted electronics" and take myself seriously. I
want to stay away from comparing it to any bands, but I feel
comparisons to electronic music genres that the EP encompasses
such as industrial, noise, synth-pop, electro, techno, etc.,
whatever, are totally fine. I really want to stress the fact
that this is electronic music that is really distorted and
raw. I feel like that wasnÆt stressed enough with the last
full length, Church Point, LA.
This Song Is A Mess But So Am I was started as a project with
the sole purpose of providing me with an output to deal with
my motherÆs death from cancer in 2003 when I was 19. Church
Point, LA was completely focused on that. Some of these
problems still linger in Marble Mouth, such as my fatherÆs
loneliness (ôLonely Wayö) and my brotherÆs stint with
destructive tendencies (ôDeaf Earsö and ôBrotherö) but overall
the themes are varied such as a friends immediate conversion
to over the top Christianity (ôCongratulations!ö) and an
attack on a music journalist (ôIs This Childish Enough Sean
Ford?ö). This is a deconstruction of electronic dance music.
It was recorded in my bedroom, with vocals being poorly
recorded in a closet, mistakes left in the recordings, sounds
tweaked with so much distortion they are beyond recognition,
and sloppy programming. I think it brings this deconstruction
of electronic music down to a human level. I donÆt knowö.
