▌░ Bent Wind is another one of those bands whoÆve garnered ░▐
▌░ serious attention among record collectors, though not among ░▐
▌░ record listers, as their album Sussex was an extremely ░▐
▌░ limited production, hovering somewhere around 300 copies, yet ░▐
▌░ band members remember 6 boxes of 25 records, which equals ░▐
▌░ 150. ░▐
▌░ ░▐
▌░ The band was an excessively frenetic hard rock outfit with ░▐
▌░ blues influences, one of the last vestiges of garage ░▐
▌░ psychedelia, appealing mostly to the working class listeners ░▐
▌░ and those without discriminating tastes à think Blue Cheer or ░▐
▌░ Iron Butterfly, though even harder and a bit more scattered. ░▐
▌░ That said, they do have some moments of interesting folk ░▐
▌░ melodies, which on a whole probably outshine their harder ░▐
▌░ meanderings. Bent Wind certainly lack or exhibit any formal ░▐
▌░ musical training, just a group of acid-heads on a mission for ░▐
▌░ god. Where as if to prove my point, Marty Roth says ôOn our ░▐
▌░ very first paid gig, I admittedly was coming down from some ░▐
▌░ acid at the time and IÆm sure it helped us make it though the ░▐
▌░ threes sets. Considering that we only had about twelve songs, ░▐
▌░ we repeated each a few times at different speeds. All of our ░▐
▌░ songs were without real words, weÆd use a sort of skat ░▐
▌░ gibberish that sounded similar to words but were muffled by ░▐
▌░ the way we used the microphone and the echo effects. Of ░▐
▌░ course we didnÆt care, we just liked playing music.ö Of ░▐
▌░ course they didnÆt care, matter of fact, MartyÆs beautiful ░▐
▌░ Gretsch Monkee Model Guitar was soon sold for drugs à so much ░▐
▌░ for loving to play music. And if thatÆs not enough for you, ░▐
▌░ just listen to the record, itÆs filled with countless ░▐
▌░ examples of lyrical, production and musical mistakes, along ░▐
▌░ with glitches. ░▐

▌░ Yes, all these years later, while you still wonÆt find a ░▐
▌░ personal copy of the original vinyl from the day, which now ░▐
▌░ sells for around $2000US, the re-issued vinyl and CD will ░▐
▌░ flash it all back at you like a DMT trip gone sideways, ░▐
▌░ something you sincerely want to avoid. There is nothing here ░▐
▌░ of redeeming social value or notation, though the stories ░▐
▌░ from this band of those times are simply movie worthy. ░▐

▌░ Children, I was there then, over indulgence in psychedelic ░▐
▌░ drugs does have its drawbacks and Bent Wind were not the ░▐
▌░ first. ░▐

▌░ The Fun Facts: The album's title Sussex is in honor of their ░▐
▌░ communal living space at 57 Sussex Avenue, Toronto, Canada, ░▐
▌░ where the band managed a staggering five concerts before ░▐
▌░ disbanding. ░▐

▌░ As to the band's name, to bend with the wind is to be ░▐
▌░ resilient and adaptable to harsh events or adversity in life, ░▐
▌░ like the way a tree that can bend is better able to withstand ░▐
