│║   I have always adored Ferdy Doernberg's role of mastermind    ║ │
│║   behind Rough Silk. I mean, I liked and still like Rough      ║ │
│║   Silk's music, and I'm well aware that Ferdy is the one who   ║ │
│║   created most of it. The whole catalogue of the band is very  ║ │
│║   enjoyable for me, but one album stands out significantly,    ║ │
│║   and that is Walls of Never. It was only the second album in  ║ │
│║   the band's history, and although Ferdy came with many great  ║ │
│║   ideas in further works, all of them sounded simply           ║ │
│║   different. But this conceptual rock opera album was the      ║ │
│║   missing piece I was looking for.                             ║ │
│║                                                                ║ │
│║   Actually, Walls of Never was pretty much similar to          ║ │
│║   conceptual album, with its frequent turns and twists in      ║ │
│║   overall atmosphere and variability of songs. Also            ║ │
│║   songwriting remains the same here, Ferdy is simply a genius  ║ │
│║   in creating unique moods with his fellow keyboards. The      ║ │
│║   main difference is that Ferdy also took over all of the      ║ │
│║   vocal parts, and even though he doesn't sound as great as    ║ │
│║   fantastic Jan Barnett, his voice is definitely impressive    ║ │
│║   enough and fits the album's mood very well.                  ║ │
│║                                                                ║ │
│║   Few words about music on this album. Although I said it's    ║ │
│║   similar to early Rough Silk, this is no power metal          ║ │
│║   anymore. It's what you would get if you removed all metal    ║ │
│║   influences from Walls Of Never - closest genre would be      ║ │
│║   progressive rock. Main driving force is Ferdy's              ║ │
│║   piano/keyboards, though there is still enough of guitar      ║ │
│║   sound to call this rock. Also, on drums you can hear the     ║ │
│║   omnipresent Mike Terrana, who is definitely doing great job  ║ │
│║   as usual, although this is not a type of music you might     ║ │
│║   expect to hear his thunder-drumming in.                      ║ │
│║                                                                ║ │
│║   All in all, you might like this if you enjoyed Rough Silk    ║ │
│║   because of their unique sound, not just because they were a  ║ │
│║   power metal band. I can recommend this album also to fans    ║ │
│║   of Jim Steinman's sound - I'd bet he is one of Ferdy's main  ║ │
│║   songwriting inspirations.                                    ║ │
