│ release info │

│ │
│ The first release from Diplo's new Mad Decent label is finally │
│ here, and it's worth the wait. Bonde Do Role are a group of │
│ kids from Curitiba, Brazil (outside of Sao Paolo) who make the │
│ most addictive "baile funk" that you're likely to hear this │
│ year or, like, ever. It's not hard to see why Diplo picked │
│ these guys (and girl) as the first release on Mad Decent: they │
│ share a common belief in taking seemingly left-field samples │
│ and turning them into totally infectious dance music. Just │
│ check "Melo Do Tabaco," which flips Alice In Chains' "Man In │
│ The Box" into a ridiculously fun baile blazer (while leaving │
│ Layne Staley's wail intact). And just when you think you've got │
│ Bonde pegged, the second track, "Funk Da Velhinha," chops up │
│ the Henry Mancini lounge favorite "Baby Elephant Walk" and │
│ smears it all over a funk carioca riddim. They go on to, uh, │
│ borrow from the Darkness ("Danca Da Ventoinha"), the Grease │
│ soundtrack ("Jabuticaba") and even that oldies "Doo wah diddy, │
│ diddy dum diddy doo" joint ("Funk Da Esfiha"). Diplo's remix │
│ tackles the title track, fusing it with "The Percolator" and │
│ Aphex Twin's "Windowlicker" in the Hollertronix stylee. │
│ Handsome screenprinted sleeves and label design courtesy Lab │
│ contributor Nick Catchdubs. Limited pressing. │
│ │
│ (This is) some new kind of baile funk love bastard- still │
│ taking big chunks out of big songs, but more rock (yes, Alice │
│ In Chains. yes, The Darkness) and way cleaner production than │
│ we're used to. Some of the most accessible baile stuff we've │
│ come across. │
│ │
│ │
│ Whoa. This caught me by surprise, cause I am not a baile funk │
│ fan (I only ripped those diplo joints cause it they were, like, │
│ diplo). But Turntablelab is right, this is totally accessable. │
│ My roommate's boyfriend said that when he woke up this morning │
│ he thought I was listening to some early/mid 90's female MC │
│ (saltnpepa came to mind). I was blasting Melo Do Tobaco, for │
│ the record. Anyway, this shit is hot and I have some more │
│ coming in the next weeks. Enjoy, seriously. │
│ │
│ Oh, and I have no clue what the song titles translate to. │
│ Sorry. │
