│║ Album : The Drums Are Back ║ │
│║ Label : Polydor ║ │
│║ Cat.No : POCP-1205 ║ │
│╠════════════════════════════════════════════════════════════════╣ │
│║ ║ │
│║ Description : ║ │
│║ ║ │
│║ "What do you mean?" - Sheer horror distorted the features ║ │
│║ of our "Master of Schweinigel" when Zompf for the first ║ │
│║ time squeezed the vibrations of the fourth COZY POWELL solo ║ │
│║ album through the ear trumpet. Categorical conclusion after ║ │
│║ seventeen seconds of listening impression: "Oha, lousy ║ │
│║ progressive sound." Well, I can't quite follow him there. ║ │
│║ Powell seems to remember his past ELP days with Greg Lake ║ │
│║ and Keith Emerson more than once and unquestionably built ║ │
│║ the whole thing somewhat narrowly for fans of virtuoso ║ │
│║ fudge. But if pathetic Simpel anthem keyboards, meaningless ║ │
│║ lyrics ("Shout I want to hear you!") And guitars from the ║ │
│║ early Satriani phase don't bother you, you should still ║ │
│║ listen to "The Drums Are Back". The thing is about as ║ │
│║ fossil as its creator, but has got good vibes, rich grooves ║ │
│║ and nice melodies - all with a proper 70s touch α la Satin ║ │
│║ Whale and companions. In addition, as at all times in his ║ │
│║ career, Powell focuses less on the wild drum and favors a ║ │
│║ more reserved accompaniment to his simple compositions. ║ │
│║ Sure, it's not world class. Neither the microprocessor nor ║ │
│║ the speed of light have any influence here. But sometimes ║ │
│║ an edge of Biedermeier instrumental hard rock has its sides ║ │
│║ worth listening to. ║ │
