Johnnie Burton is quickly carving a place for herself in an area few female
artists have occupied. With pure rock and roll energy and a ferocious band to
back her, Johnnie fills a space desperately wanting in todayÆs music tide.
JohnnieÆs signature voice and arresting lyrics showcase her well crafted
songwriting. Simultaneously aggressive and vulnerable Johnnie challenges
preconceived notions of female performers in rock.
Born and raised on the east end of Hollywood, JohnnieÆs musical style emerged
amidst a dizzying web of art-punk, roots-rock, pop, and poetry. ôI grew up
around a lot of different artists and I feel that my music and style came from
growing up in that environment.ö During high school Johnnie played in a number
of garage bands and tagged along on tours with local artists including Beck.
After high school she moved to New York and enrolled in college as a music
theory major. ôAfter college I went back to playing in punk bands, feeling like
I had both the tools to write the songs and the emotions to back them up.ö
With her first album finished, Johnnie is fired up to perform. Urgent, honest,
and in the moment, JohnnieÆs self titled album captures the feeling of a girl on
the edge. It speaks to a generation and offers a unique voice to modern rock.
