║ Oh what a happy load of horseshit this really is; the latest ║
║ barrage of verbal diarrhea from a law enforcement agency more ║
║ concerned with eliminating rights and freedoms than protecting ║

║ Lets look at this statement: first, it misleads the public into ║
║ thinking that the warez scene is somehow directly linked to ║
║ for-profit idiots when that's far from the truth; sellers have no ║
║ place in the scene and any respectable group does not tolerate ║
║ them. ║

║ Second, it puts an astronomical value on the effect of "piracy" ║
║ - it's a number that sounds sexy but cannot be proven. But then, ║
║ we've said this for years. ║

║ Third, it implies that for-profit schemes are based upon scouring ║
║ P2P networks and sites for goodies to sell. While this is ║
║ sometimes the case, it seems amusing to us to take a glance at ║
║ for-profit websites and custom crack operations - there you'll ║
║ find all sorts of applications not even released to the scene. ║
║ ║
║ Yes, folks, you can buy "warez" that you can't download freely. And ║
║ it has nothing to do with the scene. ║
║ ║
║ Why? ║
║ ║
║ The US DOJ has had one noticeable effect from its online antics ║
║ in the scene - it has driven for-profit business through the roof! ║
║ For-profit piracy has increased tenfold in the last few years, ║
║ while the scene has remained stagnant. Why? ║
║ ║
║ Well, if you're a talented cracker, why contribute something for ║
║ free and for the betterment of fellow PC users and risk harassment ║
║ and jail when you can profit from it and face more lenient ║
║ penalties? ║
║ ║
║ Why not charge money to crack the latest dongle-protected util ║
║ under the guise of having the customer "prove" ownership? Why not ║
║ base your business in an eastern European or Southeast Asian nation ║
║ where enforcement is lax? ║

║ In short, the clowns at the DOJ/FBI have driven talent into the ║
║ hands of the greedy, while at the same time ignoring the growing ║
║ trend of profit-driven counterfeiting and "backup" schemes. The ║
║ only time such cases are prosecuted is when they practically ║
║ fall into the laps of these hired hands of the BSA. ║
