the story of beatconductor / beatfanatic / jazzconductor /
southside break crew... in his own words :
i started collecting records and djing in the late 80`s. after
listening to hip hop/def jam and house music/trax he started
looking for the original source to all those great tracks. an
ocean of of great soul, funk and disco tracks was waiting around
the corner, well actually at fleamarkets and recordfairs. hours
and money were spend in huge amounts.
after combining a couple of years at university (masters degree in
social science) combined with recordcollecting and djing i began
making reedits of discotracks. starting out with a common homepc
and a demoversion of cubase i was on the right track. one of the
first reedits i was really satified with was lorraine johnson┤s
ôfeed the flameö on prelude. never released, yet anyway.
after listening to a lot of brazilian tracks i did a semihouse mix
of a track that became ôjogando capoeiraö. i received the original
from a close friend of mine and my rework became he best selling
and most famous track on the raw fusion label. the b-side was
another club hit callade ôcookinö. the track was very popular
among djs like bobbito and gilles peterson. this track is also
included on bobbitos compilation ôearthtonesö. the funny thing
about cookin is that mad mats never thought this track wasnÆt
ready for release. maybe thatÆs why cookin became so good; it was
ruff and calliente.
beatfanatic öjogando capoeiraö b/w ôcookinö raw fusion 007
after i came in contact with raw fusion they decided to release
two of the latest disco reedits i had been doing. these tracks
where released under a new name; southside connection. we decided
to do this release with a new alias because it was a bit different
to my first beatfanatic release. the discothing has always been
one of my biggest love when it comes to music. especially the
discogroove with hardhitting bongos and latinpercussion.
this release was one of the last ideal distribution shipped out
before they went out of business. we didnÆt receive one penny for
this release. i began to realize the ruff side of my musical
career.
southside connection ômake no mistake to the discoö raw fusion 009
the fame of the ôjogando capoeiraö track made an impact on jake
behnan @ counterpoint records. he asked me to rework on of the
tracks from his new jazz bizniz compilation. the track that was
choosed to be reworked was tata vasquez ôsuite guaracho pt.2ö. my
reworked was released on a 12ö vinyl with a rework by yam who. my
rework is included on the cd compilation ôversion excursionö
released by counterpoint.
tata vasquez ôsuite guaracho pt.2ö beatfanatic rework.

my big love for hip hop and the artform that made me start doing
music with computers and samplers resulted in a 4 track ep on
swedish brandy. a label that was started by freddie cruger and
lars berger. now its runned by lars alone. this ep shows
beatfanatic fascination with oldschool hip hop as well dubby
rootsreggae. the track ôfreshest jamö became rather popular. of
course we had to come up with a new name, mostly because it was a
release on a new label.
southside break crew ôbig epö swedish brandy 004
another of my best selling 12ö by beatfanatic/beatconductor is
ôcrazy in kingstonö. a bootyremix of one of 2003 best selling rnb
tracks. replacing the original rhytm with a infectious
reggae/rocksteady rhytm made this remix into a certified winner in
many clubs around the world. it also included the track ôeu
balancoö which was a popular clubtrack as well. this brazilian
track was included on brazilian beats 5.
beatconductor ôcrazy in kingstonö b/w ôeu balancoö gamm 007
after releasing four 12ö under four different aliases it was time
to do a new 12ö on raw fusion. plans for making a beatfanatic
album started when ipresented the follow up to ôjogando capoeiraö;
ôelectro magnetic coloursö. again a brazilian rhytm was beeing
used, this time combined with rnb vocals and old school hip hop
samples. this track combines a lot of the stuff i like; discohouse
beats, rhodesgrooves, oldschool hip hop, hardhitting percussion
and soulful wailin.

beatfanatic had also during this time plans for setting up his own
label: soundscape records. it was very much depending on to take
control of my situation regarding my releases. less people
involved means artistic freedom and hopefully a bit more of the
cash. i recently was in contact with recloose and he is about to
do the same thing.
my dream to have a label of my own became true with the release of
ôplaneth earthö and the club friendly ôboom bangingö. due to my
deal with raw fusion i had to come up with yet another alias. this
time i called myself soul disciple. the limited batch of a 1000
records sold out in three weeks. no repress was done. the tracks
was later included in remixed forms on my second album; ôthe
gospel according to beatfanaticö.
soul disciple ôplanet earthö b/w ôboom banginö soundscape 001
now i have had six releases out using five different aliases.
mostly due to specific circumstances that forced me to do this
choice.
the beatconductor follow up to my gamm realese ôcrazy in
kingstonö; ôhousinö was released on dicey records ltd. much
attention was also credited to the b-side track ô4 on the floorö.
another skanking beat meets us rapper q-tip. some af these tracks
was at first aimed to be released on gamm, but we couldnÆt agree
on which tracks and how they should be mixed. i realized then i
had to start another label; dicey records ltd. thanks karlsson for
that.

the much awaited debut album by beatfanatic was released in late
spring 2004. it was the bestselling vinyl album on piccadilly
records for a long time. the track that received the best
attention was ôdeep loveö. the intro track is now beeing used on a
swedish mtv show.
the beatfanatic vinylalbum was also released in japan and
australia on cd with some exclusive tracks and a different mixing.
i had to struggle a bit with the raw fusion lads to let them allow
me this. but i must say it was really worth the time and the
money. the cdversion of my album is a much better choice according
to beatfanatic. it got more tracks and a better mixing.

beatfanatic ôadventures in the world of no-fi beatsö ipm-8003 (cd)
to receive complete artistic freedom i decided to leave raw fusion
for good and give my own labels a 100% focus. i hooked up with
groove distribution in chicago and began part 2 of my artistic
career.
a follow up to the first dicey release and the first release with
groove distribution was the ôreworksö ep. it included a rework of
a obscure funky disco track and a houseversion of ôjogando
capoeiraö. i also decided to include a us rework of my ôcrazy in
kingstonö track. of course i had to come up with a new alias;
discoconductor. this track might be included on the second ôparty
kellerö compilation.
discoconductor ôreworks epö; ôdisco rhytmsö, ôcapoeiraö (house

running my own show gave me the right to use my main name
beatfanatic as i wanted. the
second release on my soundscape imprint was in no need to use new
aliases. i decided to
rework a track from my first album ôdeep loveö and rename it to
ôhow deepö.
beatfanatic ôhow deepö b/w ôafrican loveö soundscape 002
my big love for deep and soulful disco/garage beats resulted in
the release of
wharehouse choir ôhang on inö released on the nite vibe label. a
filtered ôthe bottleö
bassline and some deep soulful vocals was combined with a ruff
discobeat. and if you didnÆt
know before nite vibes is one of my own labels. this label is for
all the deep
discohousegarage stuff that i love.
wharehouse choir ôhang on inö b/w ômove your bodyö nite vibes 001
running a label on your own also makes you able to release other
artists. the next release on
beatfanatics soundscape imprint was stockholm cyclo ôboogietech
epö. four tracks of
electronic disco beats and broken nujazz. the track ôstickyö
received heavy club response
and was licensed to the new hed kandi compilation ônu coolö.

the story part 2
i had to this point been involved in eleven different 12ö vinyl
releases, nine of my own, one rework and the release of the
stockholm cyclo 12ö. beeing independent you have to play all the
characters yourself. beside beeing an artist/prodcuer i was now
also a labelmanger, remixer, a&r and a dj. it is all about diy; do
it yourself.
and i had also realized making music doesnÆt make you a
millionare, not even rich. you can get rather famous or well known
by certain people but surviving on the cash received by your
record releases is a struggle. i guess that is why a lot artists
gradually becomes more and more dj┤s. but still; if you are doing
it for the love of music you keep on in one way or another.
doing acapellaremixes/mash up is a chance for independent
producers/remixers to work with top of the line vocals. it is work
i enjoy very much. one of the strongest voices from the 90`s was
the young tevin campell. i added a latingroove to his awesome
vocals and did a complete rearrangement. included on this ep is
also the skanking madness off ôdrop of a dimeö.
beatconductor ôoff the meter epö dicey 003
my next beatfanatic release was called ôdownö. i wanted create a
moody and ruff disco track. from the beginning it was planned to
be released under my soul disciple alias. a complete soul disciple
album was actually recorded. but when thing changed with my
relation to raw fusion i dropped the soul disciple alias. ôdownö
was backed up by a funky latin track called ôel pitoö. i
personally think that the beats on this track is one of best and
of the funkiest. i listened a lot to broken beats (bugz, domu etc.)
during this tim and wanted to incorporate a bit of broken feelin
to my beats but still to keep the funky rhytm.
beatfanatic ôdownö b/w ôel pitoö, ôdisco skankö soundscape 004
i had also during the spring vinter and spring of 2004/2005 been
working on new tracks for my second album. the basic idea was to
take the formula of my first album a bit further. i also wanted to
give the recordbuyers something extra. the first batch of the cd
and the vinylrelease included a bonusdisc. the bonuscd contained
music for almost one hour. i also decided to give the vinylrelease
a bit different flavour, more clubby, and a exclusive track.
the awesome artwork was created by marcel b. he is also doing the
artwork for freddie crugers forthcoming album.

beeing a big fan of the gamm stuff i wanted to have a new release
out on this label. i approached the gamm godfather and presented
my newest acapella remix. the combination of donald byrd meets
jeru was very much appreciated by the gamm boss himself and a lot
of other jazzbeatsheads.
jazzconductor ôentertainersö gamm 017
beeing a remixer/re-editer makes you realize that a rather average
track or a track with some good parts and some worse can be
transformed into a really great track. one track that has been
considered a bit cheesy is ôall night longö. but still it is a
great track with some awesome parts. after hearing what tood terje
did with ôi cant help itö i wanted to give ôall night longö a
familiar treatment. i gave the track a boost with new beats and
concentrated on the instrumental parts and the awesome
africanbreak. i play this one a lot in clubs. drop this one at the
end of the night and the response is instant.

my soundscape label is aimed to release whatever kind of music i
like, no specific style or genre. the only demand is that it has
to by aimed for the clubs. a good song is not enough, the beats is
equal important.
i am, to some peoples surprise, a big fan of electronic music,
carl craig, moodyman, underground resictance etc. the main
influence for my next release was carl craigs detroit experiment.
me and alex of stockholm cyclo decide to rework some very basic
tracks i have made. he layed down all keyboards and i chooped them
up at my soundscape studio. the result became my next soundscape
release. we decided to call our self the disciples.

after the work of my second album i did a lot discoreworks. one of
my sideproject is southside connection and i had thought about a
follow up to my raw fusion release for a long time. the result was
ôoriginal disco breaksö. a track that came really good out is
ôthat string trackö. it is a heavilly filtered track with some
awesome vocals from the original discodiva no: 1. during this time
i also reworked one of the philly labels true classic group and
their backcatalouge. a threetrack ep was the result.

as always i get a bit fed up just working with one specific style
or musical genre. the reaction to all the discostuff i had done
was in a way the release of my recent gamm 12ö mash up and very
much the dicey records beatconductor album; ôbeats cut out played
back and souledö.
this album is very much about the original rappers and the classic
stuff from the 90┤s. to balance thing up i included a lot of
really soulful stuff like keith sweat etc. the beats are the ruff
stuff you would expect from a guy like the beatconductor. the
vinylalbum and the cdversion is of course a bit different to each
other. on the vinyl version you have the clubby tracks and some
exclusive. my favourites on the vinyl version is the extended
ôswingö( i played this one in dallas and received great response)
and the soulful groover ôdonÆt stopö.
the cd version contains 18 tracks and also includes the gamm
release ôentertainersö. it includes a really smooth track called
ôwhere i am fromö. check that one out if you thought beatconductor
is only doing ruff clubby tracks. on the way is also a
beatconductor ôreworksö cd album containg my recent
disco/housestyled reworks. it will also include my two forthcoming
gamm releases. it is beeing released on my spicy label. out soon.
beatconductor ôbeats cut out played back and souledö dicey cd/lp

my new gamm release is called ôhottestö. originally it was to be
called ôthe hottest bitchö but the boss thought it was a bit to
much. it is track that uses ruff jamaican funkgroove lifted from a
indemand track by nairobi sisters. the dubversion of the main
track turned out really good. it is very much a track of its own.
beatconductor ôhottestö, ôflowersö b/w ô hottest versionö
my newest beatfanatic 12ö on soundscape is at the moment doing the
white/promo run. it is a brokenlatin extravaganza called ôbroken
descargaö. included on this 12ö is a extended version of a track
from my album ôthe gospel according to beatfanaticö, called ôlet
us prayö. as an extra treat i decided to also include my rework of
the classic ôcookinö. it is beefed up a little bit more with some
new funky broken beats.
