Hitting another high point on his Proton Music journey,
Soulwerk's Unknown Dimension saw a wonderful two-track EP hit
the charts in December 2019. Now a pair of remixes come from
Latvian and Indian stars.
An artist with a rich musical heritage, Ivars Tiliks has created
an impressive set of credentials through his Subconscious Tales
pseudonym. From his Latvian home in Valmeira, to the north-east
of the Riga capital, immaculate production techniques with
carefully tuned and visualised sounds have become a pathway into
an unlimited world of musical fantasy. Almost 200 production
credits thus tell their own story of Subconscious Tales' success
with a collection of original and remix production material
finding itself onto such esteemed imprints as Suffused Music,
Balkan Connection and JOOF.
The Twisted EP for Particles in June 2017 was an impressive
offering, while July 2019's twin-track Magnectares saw a super
Proton Music debut. Subsequent remixes from James Monro and
Kasper Koman added a further touch of class to an already
notable debut. Returning to remix Soulwerk, the Subconscious
Tales interpretation of Funchal is full of the rhythmic dynamism
that has become a trademark of his work. Further enhanced by a
driving grooved bassline that propels the track forward,
familiar melodic refrains ripple across the mid-range, further
extended by new motif and arpeggio that are rooted in Soulwerk's
original. Hitting its stride in the third movement with a
precise combination of rhythm and melody, the result is a strong
advert for Subconscious Tales' talent.
An artist operating out of the New Delhi capital, Vridian is
keen to explore a wide range of musical genres that span
electronica, deep house and melodic techno. Able to appreciate
the necessary fundamentals to move audiences from in front of
and behind the DJ decks, a well-travelled Vridian became
resident at the Gorg-O-Mish club during a stay in British
Colombia's coastal city of Vancouver. 2017 saw a production
debut with the Perplexed EP on Mystery Train Recordings while
more recent work has seen the Indian producer feature on Traum,
Nie Wieder Schlafen and Mark Slee and Atish's Manjumasi imprint
with Silverfish in September 2019. November also saw a further
notable highlight on Qilla Records' Knowbot.
Now debuting on Proton Music, the Vridian rework of Funchal
retains the melodic hallmark of the original, extending beyond
with a raft of new and sparkling motifs that ripple across the
stereo spectrum with ease. Building effortlessly with a
combination of metronomic rhythmic programming and intelligently
placed fx washes, a subline new melodic sequence supplies a
stunning new layer to Soulwerk's track and showcases Vridian's
skill in abundance.
Remixes from Subconscious Tales and Vridian see Soulwerk extend
his stay in Funchal.
