Latest signature on Still Music, Benjamin Devigne - 33 - is fond of
Jazz, Funk and particularly influenced by Herbie Hancock, Joe
Zawinul, Michel Petrucciani and Keith Jarret. BenÆs main instrument
is the Grand Piano but he also developed a specific style to each
keyboard he uses: the Rhode, Hammond B3, Clavinet, Wurlitzer etc. You
can hear Benjamin Devigne on the first COLORBLIND album where he co-
wrote all the songs. It is through his deep and jazzy collaborations
with PATCHWORKS (COCAN, IMMO EP - QTAPE and SUGAR - STILL MUSIC) that
Benjamin gets noticed the most. When Patchworks starts his jazz
project called THE METROPOLITAIN JAZZ AFFAIR (20000 cds sold in
France), Ben joins in with jazz trumpet player Stephane Ronget and
vocalist Mr Day (ROTAX).
In 2004 Benjamin and Patchworks create their live band, the
PATCHWORKS GINGER XPRESS, that mostly plays their own creations and
some killer covers like ôSummertime". They tear the CARGO (London)
apart for a special Q-tape night! Benjamin ôThe Wonderö Devigne,
starts his first solo adventure on Still Music for 3 EPs and a full
length. THE SOUL SIDE, starts with BEGINNER, a track heavily
influenced by AMP FIDDLERÆs SUGAR RMX. Benjamin sets the pace with a
deep soulful house cut that sees co-producer PATCHWORKS dropping a
killer disco bassline. Benjamin then heads straight for the Rhodes,
The Moog and the B3 and drops mad jazz lines. Get ready! MESS UP is
another winner from the Devigne / Patchworks collaboration.
A slow building house groover with Benjamin still dropping vocal
gimmicks, killer jazz choruses with the Rhodes and the Grand Piano.
The disco feel is right on track for this one! THE JAZZ SIDE sees
Benjamin getting serious about his jazz craft. NOSTRA RIVA is
reminiscent of the Bugge Wesseltoft sound and also brings us back to
the Birth of Cool. With Stephane Ronget playing horns and flute,
Benjamin drops an impressive future jazz classic. The track is backed
by a deep upright bass and a nice housey kick.
