the fire this time is a project described as 'blakk indian music'
by its conceiver and executive producer, pat andrade. it's a series
of conscious collaborations that fuse dub and hip-hop with native
american music and features michael franti, augustus pablo, assata
shakur, john trudell, chuck d, crispin 'spry' robinson, namowan,
angela davis, nick mannaseh, oku onuora, harry allen and mad
professor.
"i love the future" and "reluctant warrior", both produced by pat
and michael franti, feature the spoken words of assata shakur. an
ex-panther, assatta was tracked down and recorded in cuba where she
is currently in hiding having escaped from a u.s. prison. "sisters
& brothers" is a turntable mix of pressure drop by first nations
musician namowan. "no white borders" brings together augustus pablo
and the eagleheart singers, a first nations drum and vocal
ensemble. "ohtokin" features the words of the legendary dub poet
oku onudra and the brazilian kriatur tribe, and was produced by
spry and nick mannaseh. "at least american indian people know..."
was mixed by mad professor and pat andrade and features the vocals
of chuck d and angela davis. "oka" was built around the traditional
first nations vocals of kelly white by spry and pat andrade.
