    █ Essentially a guise for London-born singer/songwriter Matt █
█ Johnson, TheThe began life 23 years ago - the week Margaret █
█ Thatcher ascended to power - with an NME ad seeking musicians █
█ influenced by The Residents, Syd Barrett, Throbbing Gristle █
█ and Velvet Underground. The band progressed from its early █
█ incarnations on the experimental fringe of the post-punk █
█ movement to pop success with the breakthrough 1983 album █
█ 'Soul Mining' and, later, the even more commercially █
    █ successful 'Dusk'. With brilliantly-crafted pop-synth █
█ compositions and biting, tortured lyrics, TheThe developed a █
█ core, cult following that persists to this day. █
█ Johnson has never let his musical legacy be brought together █
█ in a collection of any sort. Until now. '45rpm: The Singles' █
█ offers up 15 classic singles and eight 12" versions which █
█ have never before been available on CD. In addition to these █
█ remastered classics are three brand new tracks, 'Pillarbox █
█ Red', 'December Sunlight' and 'Deep Down Truth'. █
    █ █
█ 'If the Smiths had been able to dance, or if Nirvana had █
█ reached emotional maturity, they might have matched The The's █
    █ wry, rhythmic ragings' - Uncut █

█ 'This extraordinary collection offers a fascinating glimpse █
█ into the mind and soul of one of music's most interesting █
█ thinkers and passionate feelers' - CMJ Monthly █
