A compilation from Dego's (one half of 4hero) low-key 2000 Black
label, who are along with people, laws of motion, bitasuite, and
main squeeze (to name but a few) at the forefront of the west
london\broken beat scene.
Broken beat is a term originally coined by the japanese music press
to describe early IG Culture, Jazzanova etc.. productions, but
unfortunately the term has stuck to a lot of the new music coming
out of west london. However, as you can see from this compilation
it's just 'all good'(music) - from breakbeat to jazz, funk, soul
and techno.
There are other independent labels that are following a similar
aesthetic who think of 'grooves' as having peaks, builds and
intensity, songs as something memorable and do not adhere to any
genre restrictions or manifesto. Except a passion for music. Labels
that are home to mucisians\producers who have expanded on the idea
of the sampler being a time-machine where you can explicitly link
ancient rhythms with modern funk beats, 4/4 kicks or futuristic
breakbeat science.
However, be warned, not many are as groundbreaking or as downright
funky as people, main squeeze, archive (italy), 2000 black, laws of
motion, humble and bitasuite.
