The search for material selected for our reissues and compilations
is often a real adventure; journeys across Italy exploring damp and
dusty warehouses guided by vague, often imprecise information,
inexistent telephone numbers, anonymous characters and intricate
legal matters. The result of this pilgrimage is always exciting,
it's amazing how musically creative those years were, a rich choice
of material to listen to and select, but of course it's not always
possible to get all the information we'd like about the recordings.
We don't look for ordinary music and believe these tracks should be
proposed and heard bearing in mind their original function, for the
main this was industrial. Indubitably this music is ideal for
contemporary use by dj's, for samples, or to listen to for the
creative quality of the musicians and the interesting use of
     innovative studio techniques.
With regard to lounge-music, I think it's the opposite to genre. It
is difficult, in fact, just understanding what is today intended
when we talk of lounge-music, referring to the vast and varied
musical influences it contains. When you realise that most of the
Italian ômaestrosö who began in the early 60's to contribute to a
season rich in musical contamination (such composers and musicians
as Gino Marinuzzi, Ennio Morricone, Egisto Macchi, Enrico
Pieranunzi, Puccio Roelens, Alessandro Alessandroni, Rino de
Filippi and many others) then choose various creative solutions in
their initial productions of music libraries or soundtracks,
orchestras, pop, just think of groups like "Nuove consonanze" or
"Cantori moderni". I really think that most of the neo-lounge scene
is not auto-ironical or musically informed enough to be very
creative, it should be assimilating the musical experiences of
     those years.
Stroboscopica vol.3 opens the unexplored archives of Roman labels
like Gemelli, influenced by the spirit of those years. On the cover
of the album that F. Tamponi's "Daina Pinky" is lifted from, in one
corner sports the Italian symbol for "make love not war" with "ye
ye beat" written underneath. Gemelli delves with its vol. IV into a
kind of freedom suite with a Brugnolini's free jazz accents similar
to Max Roach, Sonny Rollins or Randy Weston, maybe we'll repress
them one day. "Malcontento popolare" comes from an album recorded
by Alessandro Alessandroni and his group that has a rare photo and
some information on the maestro, elegantly dressed as usual.
