│║ ║│
│║ With a sparsely documented history to Funk, Ripple is a mystery ║│
│║ to all but ardent funksters. But when you listen to the first ║│
│║ track on this album you'll instantly recognise the tune: I Don't ║│
│║ Know What It Is But It Sure Is Funky, and it is. ║│
│║ ║│
│║ You've probably already got this track somewhere in your ║│
│║ collection, possibly on a home-made compilation tape somebody ║│
│║ gave you ages ago; that's how I first heard this track, only now ║│
│║ I know the names of artists. ║│
│║ ║│
│║ Sleevenote writer and funk connoisseur lan Clark remembers ║│
│║ hearing Ripple for the first time in 1973, and the infectious ║│
│║ vibes generated by this septet got him shaking his funky thang on ║│
│║ the dancefloor, as the title track danced itself into a top 10 ║│
│║ position in the R&B charts. ║│
│║ ║│
│║ ║│
│║ Ripple were a Chicago-based interracial 'progressive soul' band. ║│
│║ Composing a potent concoction of 70s uptempo soul and mellow jazz ║│
│║ with a dose of funk, their music is a guaranteed thirst quencher ║│
│║ for all tastes in black music. ║│
│║ ║│
│║ And for dudes into breaks and samples this is where it all ║│
│║ started - with plenty of car chases and dancers for mean and ║│
│║ moody fukettes. The band started out in 1972 performing at college ║│
│║ gigs and parties. They appealed to a late teens/young ║│
│║ twentysomething college crowd then, donning the crazy fashion of ║│
│║ the time - loon pants, fringed jackets, two tone T-shirts and big ║│
│║ hair. ║│
│║ ║│
│║ For some time they worked as backing musicians for the likes of ║│
│║ Mandrill and Stevie Wonder amongst many others, from whom they ║│
│║ got their inspiration and direction.Their first LP, RIPPLE, ║│
│║ contained a set of wondrous numbers with strident guitar work.and ║│
│║ sassy brass and sold well the first time round. ║│
│║ ║│
│║ The band recorded further tracks for a second LP, scheduled for ║│
│║ release in 1975, which did not happen for some unknown reason. 11 ║│
│║ of those previously unreleased tracks have been included on this ║│
│║ CD, alongside the music from the RIPPLE LP. ║│
│║ ║│
│║ The previously unissued sides show further influences; some ║│
│║ tracks are soully and some are rocky. As a whole, this new ║│
│║ release updates Ripple's skilful and eclectic repertoire, and ║│
│║ about time too! If you bought any previous Ripple CD, with shoddy ║│
│║ sound and half as long as this CD, then you'll know not to get ║│
│║ fooled again. ║│
│║ ║│
│║ enjoy! ║│

│║ ║│
│║ Remember to support these artists by some method if you like them ║│
│║ by going to their concerts / buying more of their material / etc. ║│

│║ ║│
│║ Infinite Grooves was founded in early 1999 with the belief that ║│
│║ the best music has already been made. This was a neglected part ║│
│║ of releasing in the MP3-scene - now that has changed with Infinite ║│
│║ Grooves at the top. We will constantly keep bringing you the very ║│
│║ best in disco-soul, rare grooves, jazz-funk etc. Like wine, a good ║│
│║ groove only gets better with age - so we will bring you back to ║│
│║ the olde school! ║│
