self taught multi-instrumentalist chris joss first got into music
by listening to claude franτois when he was 4, but by the age of 6
he was into the beatles and since then he's been denying his early
interest in french music. he founded his first band at 15 and
impatiently waited for an affordable sampler on the market, to
enable him to get into a world of sounds unreachable by a band.
after disappointing experiences with three french majors, chris
left his home country to stay in london for seven years, during
which he performed live with several bands playing bass and
guitar, as well as recording bands in his home studio. at the same
time he was also producing his own music, influenced by the
prolific london dance phenomenon, at the time when 60's and 70's
tracks and soundtracks were given a new life by the likes of
coldcut / ninja tune and the trip-hop artists. chris joss' first
album, "music from: the man with a suitcase", gathered all the
above influences.
london's climate and cost of living concurred to make him move
back to france, in a sunny small town by the sea, la rochelle,
that he only knew from reputation. that's where he met the cristal
production team that got him a record deal with french label pulp
flavour to release "music from: the man with a suitcase".
unfortunately, it turned out to be another bad experience and
cristal production signed with irma records to release the second
album "dr. rhythm", the outcome of one year experimenting with
funk.
conscious of the non-attractiveness of people standing behind
machines, chris is preparing visuals with a revolutionary software
to accompany live gigs and enrolled his old companion franτois
prin to play drums during the sets.
