Comment from the website :

In present-day Palestine, music-stores are awash
with recordings relating to the political situation
which has shaped the lives of Palestinians for the
past 50 years. The great Palestinian singer and
composer, Moneim Adwan has chosen to treat music as
separate from politics and has moved it onto a
higher plane, deploying a modern, pan-oriental
style. 'Once upon a time in Palestine' has been
devised as a series of short musical anecdotes in
which the singer has become a story-teller who
brings to life memories from the past, the present
and the future. There is no place in this series of
brief tales for the astringent 'cliches'
characteristic of the 'Palestinian' view of
reality; here you meet ordinary folk who like love
and peace and desire only 'to taste anew the calm
joy of the smell of home-made bread'. Moneim Adwan
has engaged poets to produce for him a wide and
rich range of texts which he has arranged and
orchestrated with the help of Palestinian, Arab,
Israeli and Egyptian musicians. Improvisations on
the ney and the ud demonstrate that in this land of
future problems and present uncertainties the best
music is that which is born out of the moment, to
become one with the very spirit of music...
