In autumn 2000 a mortician, whose identity we shall not unveil,
was given a mini tape-recorder to document an embalming session
of his/her choice.
Only 2 requests were made of the embalmer :
1) to record everything from open æthe freezerÆ till closing the
lid
2) to forget about the tape.
The result was 68 minutes of raw sound. Those 68 minutes were
the sole sound source for Embalmer Tapes, Louis Fleischauer
together with R|A|A|N dissected, sliced and reconstructed this
recording into an eerie soundscape of post-mortem ambience.
By only using sounds from the original embalming tape, AMF
captured the unsettling atmosphere of the pre-room. Let the dead
not be forgotten, may they live amongst us through sonic energy.
