DJ Rolando follows up 2003's Nite:life mix for NRK with a brand new
selection across two CDs titled From There to Here and Now. Whilst CD
1 takes us on a journey through his more recognised work in house and
techno across tracks from Theo Parrish, Nick Holder, Ame, Trackheadz,
Hipp-E, Kerri Chandler and a new unreleased track from Rolando
himself, CD 2 finds Roland Rocha in more reflective mood as dub, funk
and atmospheric tracks provide a more downtempo aftethours listening
vibe.
From the man who rocked the world with "Knights of the Jaguar" comes
an inspired and spirited house and techno mix providing an insight
and taster into the almost divine atmosphere of his club sets for
which he is internationally acclaimed. From There to Here and Now
(CD1) highlights the all too often underestimated housier elements of
his eponymous style and a fluidity to his funk-laced techno sets. For
most people hailing from Detroit, house and techno are part of the
same family and Rolando's mixing style reflects his deep-rooted
feelings for the groove going back to the heady days of funk, soul,
hip hop and disco. From the opening truck horn fanfare on Sound
Stream's Soul Train to the closing unreleased In-Transit from
Rolando's new Crossroads label, From There to Here and Now is a
journey (road trip even) through the funkier elements of techno and
house
On disc two you will find a more contemplative selection of tracks
that are better suited to home listening. From the Detroit Beatdown
beauty of Malik Alston's Butterfly and David Alvardo's sublime The
Day to Japanese studio wizard Tread's Opacity Omen and the classic
E2-E4 sampling strings of Derrick May's mix of Sueno Latino the
journey from there to here finally comes home.
Rolando himself has been on a journey of late. Having left his native
Detroit to reside in Edinburgh and breaking from Underground
Resistance his Los Hermanos releases alongside Gerald Mitchell have
continued to show his latin influenced house and techno still shine
strongly since the global smash of the Aztec Mystic's "Jaguar".
Now with a string of solo material set to come out on his own new
Crossroads imprint, RolandoÆs personal journey as an artist and label
runner in his own right is set to take off. From There to Here and
Now brings us to the end of another beginning...
