Release Notes:
The drama surrounding Rik Leaf the Man and the Myth
is laid bare in this 'tell all' exposΘ. In response
to the most prevalent conspiracy theories, no; Rik
is not the born-again transgendered reincarnation
of Mahatma Gandhi, not that there would be anything
wrong with that. It is true that he is a lover AND
a fighter, but not necessarily in that order and
each with varying degrees of success. Regarding the
charges of brazenly mocking and deriding the
insipid influence of global pop culture, Rik stands
guilty of all charges. Though his publicist insists
RikÆs crotch-grabbing antics and publicly exposing
his buttocks covered with anti corporate slogans is
due to the stress of actually caring about the
world he lives in.
Certainly the sensationalism has highlighted his
reputation as a captivating Canadian artist and has
fueled his electro-acoustic indie pop-rock and
socio-political performance rants since 1997, the
year he moved to Winnipeg and started the artist
collective "Tribe of One."
It is true Rik has toured constantly for the last
seven years, producing/participating in a variety
of initiatives in conjunction with War Child
Canada, the United Nations and the Foreign Affairs
Department of Canada. While it's also true a
humanitarian tour of war-torn Kosovo with Vanessa
Redgrave and Bruce Cockburn solidified his desire
to improve the world through his artistic
contribution, it is absolutely ridiculous to
suggest Bono has ever felt threatened by Rik's
international profile. Especially considering the
two haven't metàyet. Rik has never denied he was
the assistant producer, musical guest and
'shit-disturbing' panelist for 24 episodes during
Free TV's nationally broadcast 4th season in 2003.
While it is true Rik's been featured on six
internationally released compilation CDs and two
independent albums, he exhibits the rapturous
excitement of any new parent when talking about his
latest full-length addition '...now is the winter
of our discontent' released January 2006 on Tribe
of One Records. Where the story will take him from
here is anyone's guess, but it certainly creates
anticipation for inspiring experiences.
