Beginning life as an idea on a summers evening in rural
Staffordshire, immortalised first by an email address, then a
still-unfinished piece of music, August Stars became the
moniker given to the recording project of Sebastien Wright in
2002. Drawing inspiration from geography, the seasons,
happiness, loneliness, the art of Edward Hopper and the poems
of James Joyce and Ted Hughes, August Stars produces
minimalist drones and soundscapes that recall prime period
Brian Eno, Stars of the Lid and William Basinski.
The debut EP Music for Twilight is an eight-track compilation
of material recorded by Sebastien between 2002 and 2005.
Whereas some electronic music can often be rather cold and
lacking in emotion, August Stars' sound is full of nostalgia,
sadness and longing. It is highly evocative music. Listening
to August Stars is akin to becoming lost in thought. Rather
than being merely a background, this is music in which to
immerse.
A second compilation EP Drawn Away is planned for release on
Make Mine Music in the late spring or early summer of 2006 and
work is already in progress for August Stars' first full-
length album of new material, due towards the end of the year.
