at 32 uschi classen is something a veteran in this business we
call music. a successful and accomplished songwriter, musician,
producer, programmer and remixer, uschi could be expected to sit
back and rest on her laurels. well, wouldn't you if you were a
classically trained pianist, and had written with kylie minogue,
alison moyet and robert owens? how about if you'd produced and
played in the black science orchestra , delta house of funk,
ballistic brothers, worked with ashley beedle, phil asher, crispin
j glover, tonny svenson, or remixed jodeci, east 17, lewis taylor,
and the aloof to name but a few. and then there are the labels
uschi has recorded for: jazzanova compost records, paper
recordings, mainsqueeze and released for pleasure.
well, our uschi's not one to sit back and accept plaudits. she has
done a couple of choice remixes recently namely 'disappear' for
jersey street on glasgow underground, and the soon come 'it's
complete' for atjazz on mantis recordings. and uschi is also busy
working on her debut solo album 'soul magic' for us at
earthproject. the collaboratorions on soul magic make it good
reading too: dee ellington - the main voice on the album, robert
owens, eska mtungwazi who is also working on her own mainsqueeze
project, and wildflower who has worked with roots manuva amongst
others.
the single 'home' was released in february 2001, and a limited
edition 7-inch dub version by mad professor was also released to
acclaim (we didn't take the obvious choice of remixer here). the
album soul magic is due out in early summer 2002. it has soul, it
has latin, it has hip hop, it has jazz, to cut a long story short
it has class. no surprise coming from such a classy lady.
