Time passes by so quickly ... but what the ... in case of Paul
Kalkbrenner the ravages of time are actually pretty exciting.
The tracks on "Keule" are not as snappish as in his younger raver
years, but frizzle and sizzle and kick you right in the face! so -
get your tv set out on the street, mute it, watch soccer, listen to
"keule" and then off to the party!.
Paul Kalkbrenner isn't an assembly line producer who releases new
records all the time. he travels and plays a lot, meets people,
meets styles, works on his stuff for months and then surprises us
with a new sound, that still bears the typical kalkbrenner
characteristics.
"Keule", side a, is a plain techno classic - dry, clicky beats,
minimal synths, a cool break, but also hypnotic and catchy - it
feels like a flashback to your first rave - getting home with a
sore throat and tired feet but happy as hell.
side b is rather playful. "Atzepeng", first just a 4/4 beat and a
synth bassline that is catchy from the very beginning, grooves with
an incoming second melody. very jazzy and dancy. beats that build
up and cleverly placed breaks - peng!
"Freund Blase" doesn't waste time but kicks in right away. an
incoming melody mates with the beats, gets wild with them and then
withdraws to let them stand alone and grill you up - paul
kalkbrenner as the barbecue chef of the summer 2006. alright guys -
get your tv set out on the street, mute it, watch soccer, listen to
"keule" and then off to the party!
