The entry point: a street corner in the densely populated west of
Stuttgart. A tall blond boy parks the family station wagon on the
curb, the Maxi-Cosi in the back seat. He gets out, opens a drink and
turns on the system.

When Dexter, the rapper and producer, is back at the "Corner" it
doesn't have much to do with petty criminal cliches and Gucci
behavior. Rather, with a return to the art that has accompanied him
since his earliest youth, and with a return to the good life, which,
after a few drastic changes, he is now deliberately focusing on.
"Yung Boomer" is the album for this life.

But, youalready guessed it: none of this comes from nowhere. Dexter
has been involved for the last 10 years as a producer on Cro and
Casper's platinum albums, he was responsible for two successful
Fatoni albums as well as countless collabos and underground projects.
Solo and with the producer supergroup Betty Ford Boys, he was
groundbreaking for the new self-confidence of an entire generation of
local hip-hop beatmakers - less service providers, more attention.
The fact that he had started out as a rapper himself was often
forgotten. It wasn't until "Haar nice, Socken fly" (2017) was his
first real rap solo album.

For Dexter there was never no alternative to music. After completing
his medical degree, he worked as a pediatrician in a Stuttgart clinic
and put endless night shifts between sleep deprivation and emergency
caesarean section in order to secure free time for his own shows and
tours. He also became a father of a family - his first offspring had
already opened "Haar nice ..." offensively with the announcement:
"Dad is the best rapper." Hence the VW Caddy on the side of the
road.

In 2019, in his mid-thirties, Dexter finally made the decision, which
other rappers of this age have long been questioning, and hit the
pause button for the medical profession. Because he wanted to know
exactly: what happens if he concentrates on music as his main job and
goes to his studio every day as soon as the kids are in daycare?

Grown man rap is a difficult term. Especially when you convey an
inherently young mindset like Dexter and pursue such a progressive
sound design as on "Yung Boomer". The serenity that speaks from every
verse is unmistakable and shows a healthy distance to the scene - but
also an intimate knowledge of rap, with all its ups and downs. When
Dexter boldly repeats "I'm not going to the club" ("Luft"), it
applies on several levels. It's about the reluctance to dull party
rituals of nightlife, about the memory of distant small talk with
herbal liqueur flag in the crowd. But it's also about the extremely
successful German rap with its excess testosterone and coke problem.
So Dexter prefers to look for space and find it very close to
himself: Pinot gris and sweatpants, studio and family. Just the good
life.

Dexter loves not to belong because he has already found his center.
He is happy to accept that this can sometimes seem bourgeois -
Hashtag Boomer - because only in this life could he grow up together
with rap. Dexter renounces an often toxic relationship with the scene
and devotes himself to constant development, both personally and
musically. On "Yung Boomer", synth pads and detailed trap beats
repeatedly meet clever chord structures that are closer to jazz than
to mass-produced playlists. Everything serves the purpose of
constructing the most exciting album for yourself. The selection of
his guests underpins this.

Realness is another difficult term in rap. Dexter succeeds in
reinterpreting it in a positive way and setting up its own rules. As
a family man and musician, as an adult fan and protagonist of an
eternal youth culture and as a boy from southern Germany, in whose
socialization "beer bong" nonsense was just as present as "Menace II
Society". With the disarmingly open last song on the album, Dexter
consistently continues on this path: on "Apoplex" he speaks for the
first time about a stroke that he suffered during a DJ gig and that
pulled him out of circulation for some time. Since then a lot has
been different, more conscious and clearer. Priorities guide life.

"Yung Boomer" is Dexter from the first note to the last syllable, a
golden boy with a sense of style, life experience and a new focus.
It's nice to see that German rap can do that now. This boomer is
okay.

YOU KNOW YOU HAVE TO BUY THIS SHIT IF YOU LIKE IT RIGHT?!

                                   . .
  | |\/\/| |
